What to expect

  • Most clients require at least two sessions for ideal results. The first session is to build shape and gain symmetry; the second session is to perfect any imperfections that may have occurred during the healing process.
  • Adjustments and touch-ups can be made up to three months after your first visit.
  • The complete healing process takes up to 6-8 weeks.
  • Immediately following the procedure, your brows may experience minimal discomfort on the treated area. Your brows are up to 40% darker, bolder and more solid than your healed result. Under the pigment, the skin is red and pigment has been deposited into the layer of skin containing dead skin cells; combined giving the appearance of darker color. There may be minimal swelling but because typically the eyebrow area does not retain much fluid, swelling will be limited. The top layers of skin will begin to shed on about day 3-5, and you will see a loss of color. This is normal.
  • After 3-4 days your eyebrows may begin to itch and the pigment may appear somewhat raised.
  • IMPORTANT: The color will become lighter as the epidermis sloughs off and the skin heals over the pigment. During this time the color may seem to disappear, as the skin is opaque during this healing time. After a couple of weeks, the skin becomes translucent and the color will bloom. It is not uncommon to lose up to 30% of the color on the first application.
  • After 4-6 days the skin is now rapidly exfoliating and will shed evenly if left alone. The color under the exfoliating skin will continue to appear light until the epidermis takes on its more transparent characteristics.
  • After 6-8 weeks now is the time to critique your brows; the tattoo has now become part of the dermis, seen under the epidermis.
  • Results vary client to client. Not all brows heal clean and crisp. Hair strokes for oilier skin types tend to heal more solid and powdery, while drier skin types heal more crisp and defined.

While Healing, avoid the following

  • NO water, cleansers, creams, makeup or any other products on treated area for 14 days.
  • DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 3-4 weeks after procedure.
  • Avoid heavy sweating for the first 10 days.
  • NO facials, botox, chemical treatments and microdermabrasion for 3-4 weeks after your initial procedure and 4 weeks after your touch-up.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.

Final results

The results of your tattoo will depend on how you take care of your brows, lips, and eyeliner during the healing process and beyond. Each client’s skin will respond differently, both in the length of time it takes to heal, and the number of sessions needed for your desired results and color retention. This information acts as a guideline only.

After you’ve healed

  • Brow tattoos normally last up to two years depending on lifestyle, skin type and aftercare.
  • Exposure to the sun and tanning beds can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, always apply sunscreen on the brow area.
  • Avoid using chemical exfoliants on the brows, as it will cause fading.
  • Do not do laser treatments on the brow area as some lasers may change the color of the ink.
  • Additional brow makeup application may still be required post tattoo to achieve your desired look.
  • Yearly touchups are recommended to maintain your results.

Long-term care

  • Use a good sunscreen, sun exposure will fade your cosmetic tattoo
  • If you are planning a chemical peel, laser procedure or an MRI scan, please inform the technician of your cosmetic tattoo
  • The use of Retin¬A/Tretinoin or any other rapid skin exfoliation products used regularly on the forehead area will cause the cosmetic tattoo to fade prematurely. The use of chemical peels and acid peels regularly on the forehead region can also cause eyebrow tattoos to fade prematurely.
